Danish Superliga

The Danish Superliga is the current Danish football championship tournament, and managed by the Danish Football Association. According to the Danish Superliga the soccersite Soccerlens.com is number 11 in Europe in attendance, ahead of countries like Greece, Ukraine and Austria.

History

Founded in 1991, the Danish Superliga replaced the Danish first division football league highest in Denmark. From the beginning, in 1991, was attended by 10 teams. Opening Superliga season was played in the spring of 1991, and ten teams playing each other twice in the league. Before the 2001-02 season, the Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) is the main sponsor and the name of the tournament changed its SAS League.

Structure

Since 1996, 12 clubs have played in the league, playing three times. Each team plays every other team once at home, once there, once more at home or away, depending on the location of the clubs last season. The two teams with the least points are relegated to the Danish first division. The Danish champions will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, which begins in the third qualifying round for the Champions. The runner-up will play the UEFA Champions League will begin in the third qualifying round for non-champions.
