General Information

Bundesliga is composed of two divisions: 1 Bundesliga (though rarely is indicated by the prefix of the first), and below, 2 Bundesliga (Second Bundesliga), which is a second layer of the German football since 1974. Bundesliga (plural) are the professional leagues. Since 2008, 3 Liga (League third) in Germany is also a professional league, but can not be called the Bundesliga since the league is run by the German Football Federation (DFB) and not, as are two of the Bundesliga, the German Football League (Deutsche Fußball-Liga or DFL).

Below the third in the league leagues are generally often subdivided on a regional basis. For example, the regional league is currently in the North (Nord), Süd (south) and West divisions, and Oberliga (major league) consists of nine divisions representing the states and large urban areas and geography. Levels below the Oberliga differ between local areas. The structure of the league has changed often and usually reflects the degree of participation in sport in different parts of the country. In the 1990s, changes were driven by the reunification of Germany and the subsequent integration of the national leagues of East and West Germany.

Each team in the Bundesliga two must be licensed to play in the league, or are relegated to the regional leagues. To obtain a license, the equipment must be financially sound and meet certain standards of conduct for organizations.

As in other leagues, there are significant benefits for the first division:

Much of the license revenue goes to 1 TV. Bundesliga sides.

First Bundesliga teams draw significantly higher levels of support from fans. The average attendance in the Premier League is 38,000 per game - more than double the average for the second Bundesliga.

Greater exposure to television and the presence of a higher level to help attract sponsorship Bundesliga 1 teams lucrative.

1. Bundesliga teams to develop a substantial financial muscle, combining television and gate revenue, sponsorship and brand marketing teams. This allows them to attract qualified players in national and international sources and to build a first class stadium.

1. Bundesliga is financially strong, and the 2 Bundesliga began to develop in the same direction, becoming more stable structurally and financially, and reflects a game more professional.

Internationally, the most popular include German club Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. Hamburger SV is the only team that has played continuously in the Bundesliga since its foundation.

In the 2008-09 season, the Bundesliga has restored an old German system of promotion and relegation:

The two players at the bottom of the Bundesliga automatically returned to the second Bundesliga, with the two best players in the second Bundesliga take their place.

The third-from-bottom of the Bundesliga clubs will play two-legged match against Bundesliga 2 team in third place, with the winner taking the final place for the Bundesliga next season.

For several years, [clarification needed], a different system was used, where the top three and bottom of the Bundesliga, was automatically the rear, replacing the first three in the Bundesliga 2. (Prior to 1974-1975, was only four clubs have changed seats instead of six).

The season begins in early August and lasts through May, with a winter break of six weeks (from mid-December to late January). In recent years, the games were played on Saturday (seven games starting at 15:30) and Sunday (two games starting at 17:00). A television deal in 2006 reintroduced a party Friday (20.30) instead of one game on Saturday.

History Origins

For more details on this topic, see the history of German football ;
Before the creation of the Bundesliga, German football was played at the amateur level in a large number of sub-regional leagues until 1949, professionalism, part-time (semi-) was introduced, and only five regional Oberen ( Premier League) remained. The regional champions and finalists have played a series of playoff games on the right to compete in a final game for the national championship. On January 28, 1900 was a national association, the Deutscher Fussball Bund (DFB) was founded in Leipzig with 86 member clubs. The first recognized national championship team was VfB Leipzig, who beat DFC Prague 7-2 in a match played Altona on 31 Maj 1903rd

During the 1950s, there were still calls for the formation of a professional league central, especially as the professional leagues in other countries have begun to draw the best players of Germany away from the semi-professional leagues national. At the international level, the German game began to falter as German teams often fared poorly against professional teams from other states. A key supporter of the concept of the Central League was the national coach Sepp Herberger, who said: "If we are to remain internationally competitive, we must raise our expectations at the national level."

At the same time, East Germany, the League established the formation of a separate DS-Oberliga (Deutscher Sportausschuss Oberliga) in 1950. Football League was renamed the Oberliga DFV in 1958, and was usually referred to simply as the DDR-Liga or DDR-Oberliga. League fielded 14 teams in two places to fall.
